With the establishment of Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) and the Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering (KRISO) in 1973, the history of Korea's Ocean science and technology has reached half a century.

Since then, with the establishment of the Korea Polar Research Institute (KOPRI), our research area has expanded beyond the Korean seas to the deep sea, ocean, and polar regions.

The ocean, comparable to the "space in the earth," is a space that has the potential to solve problems such as the climate crisis, resource depletion, and energy shortages facing humanity

Our scientists are constantly working to make the unknown space ocean a future possibility.

In response, a meaningful ceremony was prepared to look back on the 50-year history of marine science and technology in Korea and pledge a "new 50 years,"
